If you want to develop keyboarding skills the OCR Diploma (or Certificate) in Text Processing is an ideal qualification. It enables you to demonstrate your skills in producing a wide range of business documents.
Modules include:
- Word processing
- Mail merge
- Audio transcription
- Medical word processing
- Legal text processing
- Legal word processing
- Document presentation
- Business presentation
Some of these modules are available at Levels 2 and/or 3 only. Other modules are also available depending on which a college can offer.
Most colleges now only offer Teeline, with fewer offering Pitman. Some full-time courses may include shorthand but it can often be studied part-time in the evening or during the day.
The European Computer Driving Licence is a well-known and popular qualification, which demonstrates your ability to use word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation packages in addition to understanding the theory of computer applications.
Advanced ECDL is also available so you can take your skills to a higher level.
National Vocational Qualifications are available at Levels 2, 3 and 4 in
Business and Administration. These qualifications are often followed by
those who wish to prove their competence in their current job role. You
will usually be allocated an assessor who works alongside you giving
advice on evidence to be collected; observing you in your work and
guiding you whilst you build your portfolio. Other NVQs include:
